It’s hard to believe, but as of tonight I have officially posted 3,000 blog entries. Just think, if I post 7,000 more (what is that, another 15 years?) and it takes me an hour a piece to write each one of those, I’ll be close to completing the requisite 10,000 hours that is required to become a master blogger. Isn’t that right, Mr. Gladwell?
It’s weird to think that in less than a month this website will turn 8 years old. I’ll be sure to tell you all about it during the annual State Of The Blog Address during the second week of March. That’ll be fun for you to read, I’m sure.
Speaking of fun things, are you all watching the Grammys tonight? No? Why not!? It’s such a stark-packed, talented who’s-who of modern music. Goat’s performing with Marissa Nadler, right? And there might be a hot collab (that’s industry slang) between John Twells and a reformed Bikini Kill. You know how those Grammy broadcasts are always trying to shake things up by putting not-like-minded artists together to see what happens. One thing’s for certain — you won’t have to look hard to spot some of the biggest names in the biz amongst the crowd. Pajo’s gonna be there, right? And it wouldn’t be a Grammy telecast without several cutaway shots to a bemused-looking Aidan Baker! Oh, and don’t forget record industry honcho and head of Hanson Records Aaron Dilloway! I’m sure he’ll be in the crowd scouting for hot young talent. And I’m NOT talking about pussy!
Here’s my own personal Grammy awards for the year:
Album Of The Year – Goat – World Music
Record Of The Year – Uh…I don’t think any bands I like released any commercial singles. Spiritualized? “Hey Jane”? Was that a commercial single?
Song Of The Year – Chelsea Wolfe – “Flatlands”
Best New Artist – Pallbearer
Best Female Solo Performance Of The Year – Laurel Halo – Quarantine
Best Male Solo Performance Of The Year – Cut Hands (William Bennett) – Black Mamba
Best Rap Album – Lil’ B – White Flame
Best Dance/Electronic Album – Julia Holter – Ekstasis
Best Rock Album – White Hills – Frying On This Rock
Best Metal Album – Bell Witch – Longing
RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. If you can’t figure out the theme this week there might seriously be something wrong with you. Like, from an intelligence standpoint. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
