Sunday Mix Tape Number 297

Well, those Oscars sure did suck, didn’t they? Long and boring. Highlights included a beautiful homage to the late Marvin Hamlisch, a man who picked my mom up in a Las Vegas elevator when she was 21 and took her out on some dates. They probably boned. My mom said they “just kissed” but you know what that means. It was the ’60s. Everyone was fucking! Also, I think I saw a gerbil fall out of Richard Gere’s pant leg when he was walking up to present the award. Also, would we care about Adele if she didn’t look like Miss Piggy?

That’s enough for me. The rest of the jokes you could make about the Oscars pretty much wrote themselves. Anything else was most likely written by Bruce Vilanch.

Here’s a mix tape. It’s a pretty weird one, buckle up.

I just used the phrase “buckle up” without a trace of irony. Has this blog jumped the shark yet? No? What about right…now?

But, seriously, listen to it all the way through. I think these all work really well together. There’s a lot of ebb and flow and similarities between the tunes. Enjoy.

RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. There’s a kind of a sparse, dark thing going on with a bunch of these songs but I don’t know if you can call that a “theme” or not. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
