Amon – Amon

Amon (Andrea Marutti) has been making music since the early nineties. Amon was born in between 1994 and 1995, after Marutti purchased “some synthesizers, a digital multitrack recorder and a professional mixer, and spent part of the year learning how to use them properly and interfacing them via MIDI with computer sequencing software.” The Amon project seems to have been an extension of Marutti’s fascination with past civilizations and the space-archaeology books of Peter Kolosimo, whose aim was to convince readers that all the world’s great civilizations were populated by aliens. I should read some of those books!

The first Amon CD (self-titled) was released in 1996 by the Italian record label Murder Release. It was pressed in a limited edition of 500 copies. The music was recorded in September of 1995. It set the tone for all future Amon releases (there have been 8 releases, three of which are splits with other artists): immersive mental-dronescapes with ultra-cavernous, doom-like electronic sounds based on sustained drone textures, loops, concrete sound manipulations and deeply resonant synthesized lines. It’s all very creepy and cinematic. Amon is one of the most important artists in the development of epic, dark ambient drones.
