Guerre Froide – Cicatrice

Guerre Froide formed in 1980 as a collective of electronic/organic musicians, releasing several underground cassettes and an untitled 12” single. The first iteration of the band lasted only three years. And those three years included several lineup shifts. The collective returned to recording music about six or seven years ago, with most of the original members contributing to the project. In 2007 “Angoisses & Divertissement” was released by Brouillard Definitif, “Abrutir Les Masses” followed three years later, and last year the group released some material as part of a three-way split with Gegenacht and Pour L’Example. Although I haven’t read anything about Guerre Froide touring the world in a while, they were on the road as recently as 2008.

Cicatrice, released in 1980 on cassette by Cryogenisation Report, is a new wave/industrial masterpiece. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

I think this one has a special place in my heart because the first original song I ever wrote — at the tender age of 12 — was called “Cicatrice”. It was about a girl not giving me the time of day! See, I’m pretty much a French new wave/experimental collective all on my own!
