These are three of the four 3″ mini CDs that were recorded by Yamazaki Maso and released by P-Tapes during the years 2004 and 2005. Unfortunately I’m missing Space Time Echo or I would have the complete set of releases. By the way, if any of you own that one and want to hook a brother up with it, I’d be more than happy to hear it.
You remember Yamazaki Maso, right? I posted Masonna’s Frequency LSD album recently. Well, around the time he was performing as Masonna in 1998 Yamazaki began to incorporate more triply, spaced-out electronic elements into his performances as his harsh noise alter ego. When he decided to experiment more with these sounds he created the moniker Space Machine and started to record what he referred to as his “analog electronic cosmic sound project.” It seems at odds with the fact that he spent so much time recording unlistenable noise, but Yamazaki was always a huge fan of early electronic music from the ’50s and ’60s, and in an attempt to better understand the impact that certain electronic sounds had on the spiritual lineage audible in English and American psychedelic music of the ’60s, he started collecting vintage synthesizers and other analog equipment.
Two years after he started to incorporate these Space Machine effects into his Masonna shows, Yamazaki went on hiatus due to health problems, and he stayed at home working on the new Space Machine project. Cosmos From Diode Ladder FIlter was released in 2001, and you can hear that album (if the DL link still works) here. If you’re one of those sticklers for typos and logic errors I’ve made through the years, I accidentally called Space Machine’s 2002-released LP 2 one of the best new releases of 2007. HA!
