I used to go bowling with my father a lot when I was younger. He is one of those forty-plus-year-olds who work a 9-5 job all week (most Saturdays, too) and then go bowling on Sunday mornings with friends. It’s one of his few opportunities to do something human. When I was a youngster, a morning spent with my dad and his friends was a vacation. They talked dirty and smoked a lot of cigarettes. This was in the days when bowling alleys only allowed scoring by hand. As I sat and watched the old men bowl, playing with my actions figures or whatever the fuck I did to pass the time, I would always get excited when someone’s score was 111, because whoever was scoring would draw a little triangle atop the ones and make the score look like a house. I guess I liked it because I was fascinated with construction when I was younger and wanted to build houses. Who knew it was as simple as drawing a triangle on top of the number 111! The simplest way to draw a house! Whatever, I was six years old.

RULES for uninitiated noobs: With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. This week starts off weird and heavy, grows even heavier, peaks with Whitehouse, and then transitions with Robedoor from drone-heavy-noise into more lulling, soft compositions. It closes with two beautiful tunes, one by A Silver Mt. Zion and one by Yndi Halda. “Post-Rock,” for all it’s trappings, sure encompasses a lot of epic, haunting, amazing pieces of music. As always, these songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
