SUNDAY MIX TAPE – VOLUME 74

I overate this weekend. Yesterday I had brunch at a little outdoor cafe on Ocean that made a sublime omelet for breakfast, and had fancy gourmet Mexican food for dinner (grilled achiote chicken served over a layered casserole of corn tortillas, tomatillo salsa, manchego, panela, and cotija cheeses, and coriander radish sprout salad, according to their menu) at the Border Grill, which is owned by two lady chefs who have a show on the Food Channel (apparently). Delicious! Today I had a Santa Fe omelet at noon and In-N-Out later in the day. The hotel near LAX had free food on the top floor, so I sat and watched planes take-off/land while eating pasta and cheese and crackers. I probably could have sat there staring at the runways all night, but I eventually decided I should come home and do this Mix Tape thing for you.

RULES for uninitiated noobs: With 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. This week I’m presenting some good rock music. I’m sure you’re all tired of my ambient and experimental presentations, so I hope you enjoy the heavy, loud stuff. Although it’s not all heavy and loud. There’s one sort-of cheesy ’70s hard rock song (Truth And Janey) that I just wanted to use so I could remove it from my “new music” folder. The closing track is Table, a band I’ve written about before. According to Z they sound like Korn. What say you? Also, there are some new tracks from Part Chimp, Oxbow, and Japanther. All three have new records either out or soon-to-be released. These songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
