SUNDAY MIX TAPE – VOLUME 73

Cool party last night. Great crowd, great selection of booze, and great food. Unfortunately for you, I’m not in the business of writing party retrospectives. You’ll just have to envision it all for yourself. Unfortunately for me, I drank and ate a lot, and after running through the park at 2am in order to get home without being assaulted, I felt ill until well after 5am. Note-to-self: Running full-speed with a stomach packed with hard liquor and food–just to ensure arrival safe at home–is not worth hours of intestinal discomfort. Next time, take getting mugged like a man! Second note-to-self: stop telling people you’re a writer. It’s tiresome continually hearing the “Oh, so you’re unemployed?” retort. Or, think of an even better comeback. Something along the lines of…”Your mother died of cancer” or “I’m going to murder your girlfriend in her sleep.” That should do it!

Now, for your aural pleasure, a mix tape.

RULES for uninitiated noobs: With 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. This week I’m revisiting the very first tape I made, way back in…whatever month it was seventy-three weeks ago. These are all cool and unique cover songs as discovered by me or other people (Ian provided the Grails-covering-The-Byrds track). Boy, there sure are a lot of Beatles covers. I’m sorry about that. I originally wanted to highlight the Anna Black cover, because it is so stark and beautiful…but then I found a bunch of other Beatles tunes that I couldn’t resist posting as well. Whatever…as always, these songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
