Unnecessary Entry

Yesterday I was supposed to attend the premier of El Topo at the IFC Theater, but I received a call from my indie-industry friend to say it wasn’t worth attending. A true shame because he told me the private press screening I missed out on last Thursday was filled with stoned reporters (and Kurt Loder). This friend, who touted an appearance by Yoko Ono as a major benefit of attending last night’s official premier, today informed me that she didn’t even go last night, because her chauffeur threatened to kill her and her son. I always miss all the fun.

Z drew up some preliminary artwork for a series of 1″ pins we’re going to try and sell in a very small run of 2-pin sets. If they’re ever produced, I’ll tell you all about how you can own them…Because you’re never too hip for ironic messages on 1″ pins.

I’ve spoken many times about how much I enjoy documenting people and places, making field recording, and my desire to somehow combine elements of this hobby with my brand of ambient, horse tranquilizer-slow music. So last week I made a purchase online for a pair of in-ear binaural microphones. They’re made by a company called Sound Professionals, and the model number is SP-TFB-2. They’re very highly sensitive, and are supposed to replicate–in true stereo–everything around you while recording. The microphones arrived this morning, and I tried them out by walking around my home and going through some daily processes to see how they would respond. The clarity is incredible. Since they look so much like regular headphones, it should be remarkably easy to blend in at crowded locales, which is why I’m planning on spending my afternoon out “in the field” making some recordings. I’ll be sure to post the fruit I harvest if it’s something that I feel would be cool to listen to.

For now, enjoy a clip of me taking a piss and opening a soda!
