The show last night was very good. Jonathan from Shearwater played a very short set, two songs stuck out and the rest were “meh.” Bottomless Pit sounded like a combination of Bedhead and New Order, lots of pretty notes but way more uptempo, and at times very rocking. Magnolia Electric Co. was good as usual. Afterwards I got drunk and randomly bumped into a gaggle of my former school chums. It was like if Miro painted a high school reunion.

Here’s Mix Tape 33 (remember kids, Jesus was 33 when he died, too). If you’re new to this routine, here are the rules: I’ve got 100MB of webspace and every week I’ll make a new mix for yer iPod’s and your kingklangs or whatever you kids use to listen to music these days. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together. I don’t see a theme this week, but I’ve lately been falling in love with that Teenage Filmstars record, and self-titled Abilene record, which was engineered by Bill Skibbe back in the day. Also, I have a thing for bands that meld rock with classic orchestrations. There’s a lot of cello in these songs. These songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll buy their albums.
