Evan’s So Fat He Hit The Road And Broke It (Day 8)

With nothing to do in Covington, Kentucky last night I took the shuttle to Cincinnati for a dollar and walked over to Great American Ballpark to see if I could score a ticket to the Reds/Astros game. I stood online at the ticket window, and when my turn came I strolled up to the teller and proceeded to lean forward, smacking my head into the glass panel separating me from her. After we both had a good laugh at my expense, I asked what the best available seats were for the game tonight. She said she could put me six rows behind first base for $35. Holy shit was that sweet. Tons of foul balls in our direction, some 18-year old kid started puking all over the aisle after inhaling too much chewing tobacco and then the whole section erupted in a cheer as he stumbled away. The guys behind me kept taunting him, calling him “Pukey Reese” for the next five or six innings. Reds won. God damn, Roy Oswalt throws hard. God damn, is Adam Dunn a tall fellow. Sorry some of these photos suck, I was using the god damn cell phone because I didn’t anticipate having good seats.

Today I awoke at 9am and started my drive home….without any directions. I remember that when I went to Cincy last summer I went through Columbus, so I took I-71 North to I-470 East to I-70 East to the Penn. Turnpike (I-76) to I-81 North to I-78 East. It sounds like a lot, and it was. I even got to cut through the West Virginia panhandle again, which makes me laugh (to myself) and recall that horrible motion picture “Wrong Turn” about crazy inbred mountain people killing a bunch of kids just trying to enjoy a road trip.

I was in the car for a shade over thirteen hours today. I only made one stop in Ohio and one stop in Pennsylvania. By 6pm I was nearing Allentown so I decided to stop and hang out and get something to eat in the Muhlenberg vicinity. I got to spend some quality time with Emma and eat at Wegman’s, so I couldn’t ask for a better return trip. The traffic was fine until I got closer to home, when an accident turned 78 into a parking lot. It wasn’t so bad, I just listened to the Mets game. I’m home now, I’m tired.
