Evan’s So Fat He Hit The Road And Broke It (Day 7)

I’m in love with the Ohio River Valley.

My back hurts. I woke up on the hardwood floor in Brooke’s new apartment a few blocks from Bardstown Road in Louisville. It’s funny–the last time I was in town she was three days from the end of her lease, so her apartment was empty except for some posters and a bathroom mat. This time, she’s recently moved into a new place and the rooms are empty except for the same three posters and her mattress on the floor.

While I got dressed and brought some of my bags out to my car, she walked down the street to get coffee and bagels. When we finished, she handed me a multi-vitamin to wash down with water (“I feel like such a mother but you need this,” she said) and sent me on my way. My first order of business was to get another bagel and a coffee and update this site, because I think some people were concerned that an update hadn’t been made in over twenty-four hours. Plus, none of the stores open up until 11am so I needed to kill time.

The first place I needed to visit was WHYLouisville, where I picked up a t-shirt. Considering I don’t own a single other t-shirt that mentions a US city on it, you could infer that Louisville is my favorite city in the country and you probably wouldn’t be wrong.

I ducked into a few other stores, most notably ear-X-tacy, where I picked up a ton of records including:

Squirrel Bait – Skag Heaven
Don Caballero – What Burns Never Returns
Shipping News – Three-Four
Papa-M – Live From a Shark’s Cage
Mclusky – Do Dallas
Chris Brokaw – Red Cities
Minor Threat – Minor Threat
Songs: Ohia – Songs: Ohia

When I was done, I hopped in my car and headed for Covington, Kentucky. It’s right on the Ohio River (a mere bridge-walk from Cincinnati) and it’s cheaper than staying in the city would be. Of course, I totally forgot how long the drive from Louisville would take, and I was shocked to arrive in Covington by 2:00pm. With an entire day to kill, I figured that I could quickly make a run to Bellevue and hit up The Party Source, which is still my favorite liquor store in the entire country.

At the liquor store I bought a 6-pack of Thirsty Dog Old Leghumper, and two 6-packs of Leinenkugel’s Honey Weiss. Then I made three of my own six packs that include Bell’s Expedition Stout, Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout, Bell’s Special Double Cream Stout, Bell’s Cherry Stout, Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, Goose Island Honker Ale, Goose Island Oatmeal Stout, Avery 14’er ESB, Avery Ellie’s Brown Ale, Avery Out of Bounds Stout, Rogue Festival Ale, Rogue Imperial IPA, Rogue Oregon Golden Ale, Rogue Uber Pilsner, Stone Imperial Russian Stout, and Avery The Kaizer. When I paid, the girl behind the register looked at me and said (adopts a southern accent), “I think you done bought every beer in the store!”

I spent my evening in Cincinnati, which is a very nice city. I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow. This entry is long enough…
