last night i shaved and chopped my hair off, lest i be covered in hair, grime and dirt when i depart on my journey. this morning my car was serviced. the tires and breaks are in great condition. the oil is fine. the windshield wipers were changed, the gas tank filled. everything was perfect until the car arrived at home, when the trunk decided to cease functioning. another trip to the mechanic proved futile. a trip to the dealer took a few hours, but they fixed it, for close to four-hundred dollars.
i picked up a tape recorder and some tapes. then i went shopping for some essentials: deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, caffeine, toothbrush holder. the rest of the stuff i need i have around the house. i even put all the stuff together into one of those bags with the compartments for everything. yes, i know, a thrilling day.
after a last home-cooked meal of chicken parm and pasta, the maps were opened and routes highlighted. the aaa manual was consulted and dictated by a family friend, and through the course of my highlighting, several mistakes were made. that’s okay, they were soon corrected. we did the entire trip in a thick pink hue.
tonight we’re chilling. tomorrow i’m packing. sunday i’m relaxing. monday, i’m leaving.
