today i heard back from dave pajo, who isn’t available to meet me, but gave me something to do in louisville. this is nice, considering he’s the only person from the city who has gotten in touch with me to this point, and it is the first place i plan to visit on the roadtrip. it would definitely foreshadow a horrible roadtrip if i showed up there with nothing to do and no one to talk to.
after louisville comes chicago, where i am working on arrangements with bands. also, i may or may not go to milwaukee one day for a baseball game.
in saint louis i’m going to try and schedule a short interview with a band called the conformists, and i may or may not see a baseball game.
in the fiercely hot texas in july, i have to go to dallas for a meeting (i think…) and then to austin for a few days of interviews and scouring for more indie rock locals. since austin is south, it’s like a 9 hour drive just to get back north, and then another 6 hour drive to get out of the damn state. if i’m not sentenced to death by a jury of my peers by then, i should be safely out of texas in about 5 days.
tucson should be nice, unless of course calexico is overseas touring, which i’m pretty sure they are. if so, i’ll meet with some other local boys (giant sand maybe? friends of dean martinez?) and get some R&R with matt or maybe my cousin and his wife and their baby. by this time it will be august, and matt might come along for the rest of the trip. we’ll see.
from here on the details are sketchy.
los angeles i’ve got a family friend named corey who works for ellen degeneres. plus ilya’s girlfriend lives there. but she scoffed through the phone when i asked if she wanted to host me.
san francisco will be fun. i’ve got a lot to do there.
the rest is sketchy. like walking through a dark alley at night. still have no idea what i’m doing. but i’ll be in washington around the 13th of august. at that point it’s pretty much a leisurely drive home through montana, wyoming, colorado, nebraska, iowa, illinois, ohio, pennsylvania and jersey.
tonight i’m going to the nba draft. it should be fun.
