The first time I heard of 310 was via the Aquarius Records New Arrivals list. This was a few years ago, and I really loved the description of Nothing To See Here. I was very into field recordings at the time, so I would scour the AQ database for any release that contained “field recording” in the description of the album. This led me to some amazing discoveries, like Toshiya Tsunoda, 3/4hadbeeneliminated, Great Fences Of Australia, Reigns…so many different artists and albums.
In their review of Nothing To See Here, AQ wrote, “Simply subtitled “Short Stories by 310,” Nothing To See Here lives up to its name as a series of short tracks culled from processed field recordings of waves crashing, creaking floors, crickets, Southern gospel call-and-response choirs, distant church bells, feet shuffling across a dishevelled floor, and a whole bunch of other very discreet sounds. Instead of their usual post-rock / electronica (a la Fridge or Four Tet) 310 offers a sound quite similar in feel to Stars Of The Lid with dreamy fluctuations of synthetic sound, tremolo vibrations and ambient swish. Nice.”
I found the band’s album After All at the WFMU Record Fair back when I was living on the East Coast, but it took me until a few weeks ago to finally track down a copy of Nothing To See Here. I posted one cut from it on a mix tape recently, but here it is in its entirety. Enjoy!
