FLEECE

For a kid without a paying writing gig, my cheap (read: free) ideas sure do get ripped off a lot. A few months ago it was VICE getting all uppity over the ‘boomers and their plot to ruin the world for younger generations. Shit, that was one of the reasons I started this blog. I’ve been writing about the plight of my peers since the start! Harping about how we have to climb out from this hole the damn ‘boomers dug for us. Just thinking about it pisses me off even more. Well, good news! Now another reputable (actually, come to think of it-VICE isn’t that reputable) media publication has stolen an idea of mine. This article called Literacy Limps Into the Kill Zone totally co-opted another thesis of mine.

Some spy at Wired saw my piece (I don’t have the time to look through the archives and find it. It was March of last year) about how electronic communication has been detrimental to basic human contact. The author (to me he’s a FELON, not an author!) states that kids who have been raised on the Internet are conversing only in cliched lingo and they cannot form coherent thoughts because they’re so used to typing out their stupid ideas in shorthand. There is little attention paid to penmanship. Instant messages and rapid-fire e-mails reinforce the notion that it’s not how you say something, only that you say it as quickly as possible. The result, unfortunately, is a downgrade not only in written communication but oral communication as well.

Now all I need is Rolling Stone to steal all my ideas about “Why Coldplay Suck” and I’ll have to find a whole new set of concepts to champion.

…Fucking Internet and its access to information. One of these days I’m just going to stop writing things. Yeah, that’s it! I’ll start right after I finish this blog… When I get a life.

Z and I met at Borders last night and started to work on his comic strip. I think it’s hilarious but suddenly this morning he decided he didn’t like it anymore. We came up with three or four plotlines, and he came up with the catchy title “For the Record” (get it, record? Like an album?). Ian met us there, we went back to my place and tried to watch Krautrock Meeting 2005, a DVD where a bunch of Krautrock bands (Guru Guru and Amon Duul 2 most notably) reformed for a one-off concert. It was so bad I thought about taking syrup of Ipecac and claiming I was too sick to see the end of the concert. Afterwards we watched The Aristocrats, which was alright. Then they left and I went to sleep drunk. I woke up a few hours later sweating and dehydrated, only to discover that someone had turned the heat up to 75 degrees. After tossing and turning in my own sweat for a while I finally fell asleep for good at 8am.
