Oh. Hey there. I thought I was going to have some time this week to post about recent misadventures. As it turns out, I was far busier than I thought during my days off from work. I spent a considerable amount of time catching up on tasks which should have been completed in September. Change of address forms and things of that nature. I was anticipating relaxing in my living room sharing a new arrival from my record collection, or taking a day trip someplace new and relaying whatever antics took place. Instead I drove to a bunch of different places across town and stood around in lines waiting for my turn to do one thing or another. On Wednesday night I got to hang out with an old friend from overnight camp who I hadn’t seen in ten or fifteen years. We had some beers and then some cocktails on the west side. That was the most entertainment I got up to this week. Otherwise it was work, or obligations, or menial tasks. Even though I worked all weekend I found time to grill some burgers and have a few beers last night. 50% ground sirloin, 50% ground chuck. Caramelized onions. Gooey American cheese. Good stuff, I assure you. After a few days during which it felt like my mind was in a perpetual haze I got to sit on the porch beneath my little Christmas lights and enjoy a cool autumn evening. That was nice.
I was hoping to get over to BarFood on the other side of town for Simpsons pub trivia night earlier this evening. But my two biggest LA Simpsons nerds are out of town at the moment (one for work, one for good) and the other two Simpsons nerds I know were busy tonight. So…it’s not like I was going to go and pay $5 to be on a team by myself. I know me some Simpsons trivia, but I’m not going to win against a bunch of other fanatics by my lonesome. So now I’m watching horror movies and ripping some CDs I borrowed from work. Anyone familiar with those 32XD series Japanese discs from the mid 80s? Lots of folks think they’re the best sounding CDs you can buy. As a vinyl guy, I find the “best sounding CD” arguments laughable most of the time…but I’m always interested in hearing what people say might be the “best” version of an album.
I think I mentioned this last week, but I have a few shows this week so anticipate like two or three posts recapping whatever bands I’m seeing. I’ll try to keep the specifics vague so you’re somewhat surprised. Although if you look at an LA concert calendar I’m sure you could deduce where I’ll be and who I’m seeing.
Fuck it. Mix tape time.
