Hello world. Again…
As some of you may have noticed, for the past six months or so malware was popping up on both the desktop and mobile versions of this site. I am a one-man operation, so I don’t have an IT or web-dev team to help fix things when they go awry. My old hosting site, Ionos, tried to perform a “data clean service” that failed. The only solution I found was to move my domain and try and rebuild the site from scratch.
Obviously, I couldn’t just download my entire database and upload it to a new server. Something was corrupted, and doing so would have just…moved the corruption to a new server. At 37-years-old I am no longer the spry, young know-it-all computer nerd I was when I built this site in 2005. It’s a much slower process. I have to learn the ins and outs of a new web hosting company. I had to find a suitable template with slightly more modern bells and whistles. And, of course, I had to figure out how to move all the old posts, comments, and media without inadvertently infecting the site again. So…yeah. This is a work in progress.
There are currently 3,301 blog posts on this page. Most of them had either pictures, audio, or video files embedded in them. I hope that the majority still function properly. On the back-end of things I see a lot of gray placeholder images in the media library but on the front-end I see the correct media. Unfortunately, none of the featured images from the old theme seem to be recognized by the new theme. I’ll try to do rectify this moving forward, but for now I apologize for the look of things.
Before the malware thing happened I envisioned a new model for the site. It’s my intention to move forward with these changes soon, I just have to…you know…make the place look more presentable and feel a bit more professional.
Please bear with me as I re-learn how to build a website.
In the meantime, if you see anything that looks amiss, or you see any remnants of malware, let me know. Don’t let me know every single image or link that’s broken…but if you see something egregious feel free to reach out.
Otherwise, please be patient with me. And stay tuned.
