At this point, I can’t turn down a chance to see Khemmis when they come to town. They put on a fantastic live show, and their albums seem to be getting better and better with each release. Their newest effort, Desolation, came out this past week. To mark the occasion the band scheduled a few shows where they would play the album in its entirety. Los Angeles was the first of three evenings of Desolation. Chicago and their hometown of Denver will follow. If you live in either of those cities, I highly recommend checking out the show(s). Of course, this post will likely be published too late for those of you who live in Chicago…but to all my Denver friends, GO SEE THEM.
You might remember Khemmis from such concert reviews as “Oathbreaker/Khemmis at The Roxy” and “Psycho Las Vegas: Friday Recap.” They were originally an Ian recommendation, made around the time their first album Absolution came out. How much have I enjoyed their records? Absolution ranked #18 on my list of the Top 100 albums of 2015 and Hunted ranked #28 on my list from 2016. Now that June is over, I’m preparing my list of the best albums of 2018…so far, and Desolation is sure to be on it.
The band sounded great the other night at the Echoplex. I was a teensy bit bummed we didn’t get a few more songs from other albums (like “The Bereaved,” which gets me every time they play it), but it was great to hear the whole new record live. Here are some of the better pics I took during the band’s set:
Setlist:
01. Hunted
02. Bloodletting
03. Isolation
04. Flesh To Nothing
05. The Seer
06. Maw Of Time
07. From Ruin
