What a disappointing day for fans of the New York Football Giants. Yours truly included. Don’t get me wrong when it came time to literally put my money on the line for my weekly pick ’em league I bet on Green Bay. Still, I was praying for a Giants victory. I guess you could say I was cautiously optimistic. And nervous. I spent the day leading up to the game running errands in an attempt to distract myself. Once I saw the rest of the group’s picks in my pick ’em league (every single bettor picked Green Bay so a Giants victory would not have affected the final standings) I was even more excited by the prospect of an upset. The first twenty eight minutes went really well! Unfortunately you have to play the whole game in order to win and this time it wasn’t meant to be. The same bugaboos the team dealt with all season (inconsistent offensive performance and poor blocking by the OL) turned out to be their undoing. Seriously… the fact that Eli Manning survived this season with the giant civ that is Erick Flowers protecting his blind side is a miracle. Hopefully the team will attempt to fix that hole in the offseason. The Giants have a lot of good pieces in place for 2017. Now they need to solidify the roster via the draft and free agency.
Fuck the Cowboys and the Patriots. As long as any other team wins this year I’m cool.
The rest of my weekend was pretty good! The Friday neighborhood bar adventure that cut short my previous post turned out to be a fun albeit sloppy time. Last call brought an abrupt end to the night, but then a neighbor convinced me she knew a shortcut through the hood back to my place. After what felt like an eternity wandering through yards, hopping fences, and ignoring a handful of trespassing signs, we were able to locate my street. The rain-soaked “shortcut” took twice as long as the walk home along my normal route. Saturday morning was a rough one.
Last night I finally made it to Pok Pok and I have to say I was a little disappointed. My reservation was for 8:45. Even though it’s a tad on the late side, two of the items we’d hoped to order were unavailable. The Vietnamese fish sauce wings were quite good. The sour cured pork riblets were good (they didn’t have the full ribs). The broken crepe was okay. The glass noodles with ground pork and mussels were okay (they didn’t have the hot pot with prawns). The pork belly and pork shoulder curry was a bit on the fatty side. They were out of all the desserts except for the sticky rice with durian-scented custard (ew) and the thing that looked like a hot dog ice cream sundae. I’ll give it another shot, but for now Night + Market is ten times better.
And that’s me. Now a little mix tape for you.
