I briefly forgot today’s date as I was uploading the files for today’s mix tape. When I realized it is almost October my thoughts shifted to my Top 100 Albums of 2016 list. I’m way behind on discovering new music. I’m trying (in vain) to flex some hip, fresh social media muscle with a weekly “Bandcamp Thursday” campaign on Facebook. I think I’ve forgotten to post new discoveries in three of the past five weeks. As is the norm around here, I’m off to an inauspicious start. According to my running list of worthy albums I could successfully share the top 58 of this year. I still need to be impressed 42 times before the last week of December. Maybe I should open the floor to suggestions. What are the three best records you’ve heard in 2016? Share yours in the comments section below. There isn’t too much planned for me during the next few weeks. Zwanze Day is October 1st, but other than that I don’t have any exciting plans on the horizon. Beyond Fest is at the beginning of October as well but it’s not like I’m going to review a screening of Holy Mountain or Street Trash. Google them if you want to read what smarter folks than I have to say about those films. Maybe if I check out one of the premieres (Raw? The Girl With All The Gifts?) I’ll write about it. Otherwise…the plan is radio silence for a little while. I reserve the right to suffer a bout of spontaneous creativity and post every day for a month straight should that unlikely scenario occur.
