There’s a certain kind of weariness that overcomes us when we aren’t having as much fun as we should have. Life gets in the way of the enjoyment of one’s life. Make sense? I so look forward to my days off, and then they come and it feels like there is too much to do in that 48-hour span, and then there is no time to revel in the free time. There are obligations and meetings and personal matters to which I must attend. Sometimes when I’m driving to and from all these destinations I daydream about vacations and endless hours of relaxation. Then I make a left-hand turn as the light is changing from green to yellow to red and almost get killed by oncoming traffic. That’ll end a fantasy real quick.
My mother was in town for a few days last week so we spent a lot of hours driving back and forth across Los Angeles on various missions. I needed an end table for my living room. I needed some new shirts. Typical motherly stuff. We ate well, too. The Independence in Santa Monica was a surprisingly good meal. They have a solid cheeseburger and venison ragu. Yes, we shared both even though they’re two completely different styles of cuisine. I introduced mom to Manchego too, where we dined on Spanish tapas like jamon-wrapped, goat cheese-stuffed dates, short rib empanadas, various tostados, and hangar steak. We walked for hours around Santa Monica and Glendale and all points in between. My end table should be arriving Tuesday. I’m sure you would tell me “it’s” “cute”.
If I’m not too busy this week I’ll start on some of those promised “Best Of 2015…So Far” lists I promised in my last post. Friday night I’ve got film-geek plans but the rest of the week might allow for it, until it doesn’t, at which point I’ll start to daydream about writing more in my free time. Maybe next week. I can always daydream about that, right? Then I’ll make a left-hand turn as the light is changing from green to yellow to red and almost get killed by oncoming traffic.
RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. Is there a theme this week? You tell me. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
