Well, weren’t those Oscars something? No? Oh, okay. Never mind then.
In all honesty, though, I’ve seen most of this year’s nominees and my predictions were pretty far off. I guess, in the major categories, my votes would have gone to Patricia Arquette (if only because she was in True Romance, one of the greatest films of all time – and also because of that scene at the end of Boyhood where she gives that amazing monologue before the kid goes off to college), JK Simmons (who has been on my radar since Oz so it’s nice to see him get such incredible recognition for his talents), Michael Keaton (who lost out to the Stephen Hawking guy, which…whatever…I didn’t think he was as good as his peers in that category), Julian Moore (boy, the actress category was weak this year, huh?), Boyhood for best original screenplay, Imitation Game for adapted screenplay, Iñárritu for direction and Boyhood for best film. I liked Birdman a lot – it was probably my second favorite film of the year – but Boyhood was to me the best of the bunch this year. I guess my top 3 (counting down) were Imitation Game, then Birdman, then Boyhood. I’m shocked that film got snubbed in every category except Arquette’s.
Handicapping Next Year? I don’t know… the Tarrantino movie and the Malick movie for every award. You heard it here first.

RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. Of course there is a very subtle theme this week. Pretty obvious, isn’t it? The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
