Phew. After an amazing two weeks, the Player Piano IndieGoGo campaign sprinted to its finish, raising an astounding $69,630 dollars. That’s almost $10,000 more than we anticipated/hoped for. I think I speak for Tom and Sonya and myself when I say that were completely floored by the output of support from friends, family and complete strangers who pushed us way over our goal. Now the next phase of the project can begin – with all those involved feeling very, very good about the future – and I’ll have some more time to do things like blog, and write, and catch up on all the records that have been piling up next to my turntable. For the past 10-14 days it has felt like when I come home from work I have to devote hours to e-mailing and spreadsheet-ing and Tweeting thanks to people who donated to the campaign. It hasn’t left much time for a social life or, you know, fun. I’ve tried to make the most of it by drinking fancy beers and watching some of this year’s Oscar contenders, but my attention has usually been on IndieGoGo.
I just finished American Sniper, which was quite good. Better than Unbroken, not as good as Birdman. I’ve got a few more to watch (or re-watch) before I make my picks for what I feel should win in all the major categories. The one thing I know for sure is that Under The Skin got robbed by not being nominated for best original score. Hopefully by the end of the week I’ll have seen all the nominees. It’s not like I have anything else to do with my life right now.
I feel like I haven’t done this in a while. You guys see that Coachella schedule for this year? Yeesh. Drake headlining? Does nobody stay for Sunday? That’s the only excuse I can imagine for having Built To Spill and a bunch of nobodies on that day. I guess Jack White makes sense for Saturday from a celebrity standpoint but Swans are the only band I’d want to see on that day’s schedule. At least Friday has Ride, Lykke Li and…Oh my god Steeley Dan and Interpol on the same day? What a joke. Okay, I have to eviscerate this schedule one of these days. Maybe tomorrow. Jesus. Steeley Dan at Coachella. What’s next, Michael McDonald is gonna headline? Hall & Oates?
Okay, here’s your celebratory mix tape.
