Apologies for the amount of space I have distanced myself from this page. Aside from my day job I have taken on a second job (a night job?) that you’ll hear all about on Monday. It’s been fun – and a bit of a learning experience – but as we race toward the finish line for this project I’m finding that I don’t have time for much else in my life. Sleep, work, work, sleep. It’s been like that for a while. Maybe in between there’s time for a quick drink or a walk to stretch my legs. Like the other night I was working in Echo Park but decided to walk over to iam8bit for the opening of their “Sequel” show. There were 40 or 50 movie posters by different artists whose inspiration was movie sequels that don’t exist. I was expecting to see names like McCarthy or Moss or Stout or Ryan or Shaw or We Buy Your Kids…but I didn’t recognize a single artist’s name. And some of the pieces were quite good! Standouts included “My Neighbor Totoro 2”, “Videodrome 2” and the sequel to “Up,” which (obviously) is “Down”. If any prints were left over following the opening, they’re available for sale from the gallery’s online shop.
Other than that, or maybe a trip to Ramirez for some beers (which can’t be consumed until the job is done!), my life has been an incredibly uneventful of late. I’m looking forward to flying home next week for Thanksgiving. I’m in desperate need of a break from what has recently become my daily/weekly routine. Also good food and family will be a welcome change from life in LA.
