You can imagine my surprise when — during my morning run today — I saw the signage outside Vacation Vinyl advertising an in-store performance by Alcest. An ACOUSTIC performance. I ran another half-mile before turning around and heading home. How could one give up an opportunity to a) see a French shoegaze/black metal band in such a tiny setting and b) see an “unplugged” performance by said band. I’d be a fool! The two-song set consisted of “Autre Temps” and…uh… “Souvenirs D’un Autre Monde?” I think? I’m so not used to hearing the songs stripped bare that I could be blanking on the title or have it confused with another song. I know guys, I had ONE job to do (review a 2-song in-store performance) and I couldn’t even do it correctly. Sorry. Afterwards, the band hung around to take photos, and sign records, CDs, and posters. There was plenty of merch available at the store’s front counter, including t-shirts and colored vinyl. All this in preparation for tonight’s gig at the El Rey with Anathema and Mammifer. God, that Mammifer/Locrian thing was good, wasn’t it? Anyway, here’s some more pics and a 60-second video from today’s performance:
And, of course, what good is a trip to the local record store without a little self-promotion:
Wolvserpent/Unwound/Todd. One of these things is not like the others….
