Sunday Mix Tape Number 320

It’s been a busy weekend, folks. Friday I saw Kick-Ass 2 (it was fun! check it out, keep your expectations low) with Tom. On the way to the theater I stopped at a bar in Hollywood for a drink. When I parked my car and started to cross the street I noticed Aaron Paul and his wife were crossing in stride with me. Even those of you who have been reading this page for a while probably don’t remember the last time I saw TV’s Jesse Pinkman (Lost Live @ UCLA), but I wanted to bring that plus one other time we crossed paths, so I said, “Aaron Paul!” at him. Before I could say anything else, I heard another voice yelling “Evan!” at me from the other side of the street. It turned out to be my friend Jaime, who I probably haven’t seen in six years since I moved to LA. Momentarily stunned and caught between finishing my salutation to Mr. and Mrs. Paul, I awkwardly cut off my celebrity encounter mid-sentence and instead stopped to give the old friend a hug and chat for 10 seconds in the middle of a crosswalk.

Aaron Paul, if you’re reading this (and we all know you’re not…), it would have been nice to chat with you again, and I hope you and your new bride enjoyed your dinner.

Last night was Trivia Night at Little Bar. I was once again the “rookie” on an established team whose most-veteran members had their own team t-shirts manufactured for them. I think I might have helped with a couple questions. I knew that one of the famous Canadians pictured on the hand-out sheet was a young Leonard Cohen, I knew that…I don’t know, I knew a couple things. One thing I guessed correctly that didn’t make it to the answer sheet was that Colorado is officially known as the Centennial State, but I only knew that because the clue mentioned it having to do with the year 1876. Otherwise I would have said the Rocky Mountain State just like everyone else at the table. Oh well. Also we finished in a tie for third place and I convinced everyone on my team to take “the Price is Right route” in guessing that Betty White has only ever been nominated for one Emmy Award. My logic was, “Look, she’s either been nominated for one or for twenty. Let’s just go with one, it’s probably trick.” The other team we were tied with guessed eight. The correct answer was, ironically, twenty nominations. Oh well. We lost out on a hat. That we would have had to split 6 ways. No biggie.

Hey, here’s your mix tape. Enjoy your week, guys!

RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. Y’all missed the hidden theme in last week’s tape, but I assure you there is no theme this week. Although there’s a lot of cool songs. Maybe that’s the theme. Cool songs! The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
