Frankie Laine – Hell Bent For Leather!

Let’s keep up with the AMERICA FUCK YEAH vibe of July 4th by sharing a kick-ass country and western record. This sweet slab of vinyl was ripped (from the original monaural pressing!) and posted to the EA Sendspace thread a while ago. Years ago? Yeah, probably.

If you aren’t aware of Frankie Laine, you should be. With nicknames like Mr. Rhythm, Mr. Steel Tonsils (!?) and Old Leather Lungs (!?!?!), he was one of the most successful American singers of the 20th century. He sang the theme songs to Blazing Saddles, as well as everything from crooner-pop to gospel, rock, folk, jazz and blues. Throughout the course of his career (which spanned all the way from the 1930s pretty much until his death in 2007, he had 21 gold records, 70 charted hits, and worldwide sales of over 100 million records. This one might be his best. Trust me.

Also, that title!

From Wikipedia:

“This album of western classics by Laine established him as “a cowboy singer” for many young fans who grew up in the 1960s. The album’s title is taken from a line in the popular television theme song Laine recorded for the popular Eric Fleming/Clint Eastwood western, Rawhide, which appears on the album. The tracks include stereo remakes of several of his biggest western/great outdoors hits: “The Cry of the Wild Goose”, “Mule Train”, “Gunfight at O.K. Corral”, and “The 3:10 to Yuma”, as well as new material, including the western rocker, “Wanted Man”, and a musical narrative, “Bowie Knife”.”
