Henry’s Dress – Henry’s Dress

Sorry guys. I’m sick today and operating on just two hours of sleep. I’m pretty much unable to function, so I’ll post a Mix Tape tomorrow night if I’m feeling better. Until then, here’s what I’m listening to while I attempt to nurse myself back to health (what, it’s not like I have anyone ELSE to nurse me back to health!)

Thus spake All Music Guide:

“San Francisco’s Henry’s Dress debuted on Slumberland Records with this self-titled, eight-song disc. The songs were recorded at Supersonic Studios in 1993 and 1994. The band’s distortion and heavy use of fuzz pedals are immediately prominent, along with Amy Linton’s relaxed vocals. The haunting and chaotic instrumentation on “Title Forthcoming” combines with Linton’s distant vocals to create a surreal and dreamy aura. The band caused excitement in the West Coast indie scene with their powerful mixture of Sonic Youth-meets-Cat Power style. Matt Hartman checks in on vocals on “Sally Wants.” On “(You’re My) Radio One” and “‘A’ Is for Cribbage,” Linton hints at the vocal range that would later be showcased in the Aislers Set. “Three” is by far the slowest and most somber track on the disc. Even when dramatically slowed down, the band utilized healthy amounts of distortion. The band was one of the few indie rock bands in the mid-’90s to add distortion to simple, jangly guitar chords, especially on songs like “You Killed a Boy for Me.””
