Caul – Light From Many Lamps

Brett Smith has been releasing dark ambient recordings under the moniker Caul for the past nineteen years. Finally, in 2014, he’ll be eligible for induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall Of Fame! Think about it: Caul, on stage alongside…uh… Weezer, Blink-182, Portishead, Toadies, Melt-Banana, Shellac (unless you count those 7″s), and Usher. Wow, that’s a lot of heavy hitters to choose from!

From Strange Fortune:

“Caul returns home to Malignant where he belongs! 15 tracks of elaborate orchestral beauty and infinite sadness. Spiritual in nature, but with an omnipotent dark presence, Light From Many Lamps is not only Caul’s most accomplished and mature release to date, but also the most melancholy and introspective. Intricate symphonic melodies and ominous ambient textures blend together harmoniously as a chorus of celestial voices and ornate instrumentation provide a backdrop of loneliness and lavish despair.”
