Suishou No Fune – Mystic Atmosphere

Issued in a limited edition of 125 copies housed in a slimline DVD case. Recorded at Koenji Muryoku Muzenji in 2004.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to witness Suishou No Fune in a live setting, you’re missing out. I saw them at the Smell (with the drummer from Ancestors) a few years ago and it was as good as it was deafening. Any semblance of tempered psychedelic rock was completely discarded in lieu of harsh, grating noise. They didn’t sound like the same band that recorded Where The Spirits Are or Prayer For Chibiā€¦but that was okay.

Mystic Atmosphere culls its four tracks from a live venue in the Koenji district of Tokyo. Up-Tight’s 2003 live album was recorded there, also. Suishou No Fune cut this album there, as well as their 2003 debut CDr (which I’ll post someday soon) and 1/3 of Writhing Underground Flowers.

The duo hasn’t released anything (that I’m aware of, at least) since 2011’s Bonsai No le. Hopefully we’ll hear something new in 2013. Hopefully we’ll all have a chance to witness their awe-inspiring live show again soon.
