Nothing like a little experimental guitar work from Japan to ring in the new year, am I right, guys? Here you’ve got three compositions by Kyoichi Tokuyama, from the Japanese hard rock/psychedelic band Aushwitz, which formed in Osaka in 1980. Those are followed by two tracks by Shisho, who…uh…I don’t know much about. Seiichi Yamamoto is probably the best-known name on this compilation. He’s remained one of the most versatile artists in the Osaka scene since the late ’80s, forming the band Omoide Hatoba, he was in Omoide Hatoba with K.K. Null, and he’s played in Boredoms, Acid Motohers Temple, Rovo, and Most. Lastly there are two cuts by Jojo Hiroshige, who founded Hijokaidan in 1979 and — wait for it — started Alchemy Records in 1984. Aside from being an accomplished guitarist and record label honcho, Jojo also had a sports cards business, and Alchemy music and book stores. Most recently he opened a fortune telling parlor in Osaka called Future Days.
