This one was described to me as sounding at times, “like the MC5” so of course I had to check it out. Because how often do you get to hear a Bo Diddley album that sounds like the MC5? The answer, of course, is never. Except on this album.
Did you know (you probably did not) that this was the eleventh Bo Diddley album, recorded live in concert in July of 1963 at the Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina? And that it is one of rock music’s earliest live remote recordings? It’s true! It’s all true! Bo is backed by Jerome Green on percussion and backing vocals, as well as Norma-Jean Wofford (the Duchess) on rhythm guitar and backing vocals.
My point is, the MC5.
