Happy birthday, sister. You never read my website so this message for you will most likely never be seen. Still, that shouldn’t deter me from wishing you well. You’re thirty years old now. Your life is pretty much over. Don’t feel too bad, I’ll be there in another 13 months.
It’s pretty weird to think about how quickly we age. I was talking to a friend about his old band this weekend, and I was commented that I had some old live recordings of them from the years 2002-2005. That means I was 19-22 during that span. It was almost ten years ago. And, at that time, I used to think of my friends who were in their late 20s or early 30s as being ancient — as being so much more older than I was. Now I think of them as being unchanged, but I’ve somehow caught up to them in age. It doesn’t make sense, at all, but it’s a thought I often have.
But hey, enough about me. You’re not here to read what I have to say. You just came for the promise of free music. And I, being such a generous fellow, will once again provide you with what it is you’re lusting after. I’m like the abused wife who keeps coming back for more because I know it’s best for me. “Just shut up and compile the mix tape, Evan. It’ll increase traffic! Take the fact that no one cares what you have to say like a man.”
Sorry, I’m rambling. I’ll shut up now.
RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. I guess if there’s a theme this week it’s the idea that all of these songs, at least to my ears, achieve a certain charming quality I quite like. Two by Broadcast, just because. And also maybe it’s because I keep hearing the phrase “Your Grace” in Game Of Thrones. So who the hell knows where my head is right now. If you saw my apology on Facebook today for not blogging yesterday, you know that I’m compiling this tape as quickly as possible so I can finish watching the first season of that show. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
