It’s taken a few days, but I’ve compiled a marathon playlist that is 4.6 hours in length (just in case I fuck up miserably and need to listen to something in the “whoops! wagon” during the assisted ride to the finish line). I used songs from my own 18-week training program that seemed to have positive results along with suggestions from different running websites (some of which actually use BPM to calculate a per-mile pace) to create this playlist. There are also a couple sappy nostalgic tunes included at different times just to pick me up if I’m feeling sore or tired along the way. I’ve always told myself that no matter what happens the final song I’m going to hear as I cross the finish line is “Storm,” (also known as “The Gathering Storm”) from the Godspeed You! Black Emperor record Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven. For ten years that’s been my default choice for inspiring music, so it would be an apt choice for what will play as I approach the home stretch.
