Celebrating (roughly) four-and-one-half years of Sunday Mix Tapes.
I’m back from India. I’m trying to pretend I’m not jet-lagged but after sleeping five hours on the plane I came home from the airport (at 7am) and slept until noon. Then I woke up and ran 20 miles (which sucked!). Then I went out drinking. I fell asleep at about 2am and woke up at 7am. I tried to go watch the Giants and Jets games at a local sports bar but wound up coming home before the Jets game started because I was too tired to sit around any longer. Passed out in front of the fireplace. Woke up just in time to squeeze in this mix tape before midnight.
I fly back to Los Angeles on Tuesday. It should be an interesting few weeks before the marathon. My sister is flying out to spend Thanksgiving with me, and to see how the LA orphans celebrate one of our most austere national holidays (short answer: with lots of food, probably a couple fights, and never enough alcohol). Then I’ve got one week to prepare myself for the longest run of my life. If my 20-mile effort yesterday was any indication…I’ll cross the finish line, I just don’t know if my time is going to be anything to write home about. I finished in 3:06:46, which is a pace of about…what, 9:20? 9:30? It was definitely a struggle for me to finish at the treadmill’s programmed pace. The good news is my sometimes-wonky left knee held up just fine. But I might have pulled a muscle in right leg at some point because it was sore today. Next run is Tuesday morning so we’ll see how it feels then. Monsieur Hornet Montana should be back in town that day, so we’ll probably meet for breakfast before the flight back to the West Coast.
