Sunday Mix Tape Number 228

Things I learned this weekend: Apparently it’s grounds for an ass-kicking when you’re black-out drunk at a bar and you tell a girl her boyfriend is “limp dicked” and ask her if you can “put a little baby in your tum tum.” Good thing I was in a large group of people who would have (might have?) backed me in a bar fight, that’s probably why I made it out of the bar safely. Also wearing a pirate’s hat and obnoxious, oversized sunglasses turned out to be a good thing because now I can return to the bar without being recognized.

Here’s your Sunday Mix Tape. For those of you who were waiting on pins and needles to find out if I won my fantasy baseball matchup, I did. I’m in the finals. So I’m going to spend the next ten days freaking out and watching the MLB Network whenever I’m at home to try and get some competitive advantage. Also, following my rude behavior at the bar last night I probably won’t be drinking this week. In fact I’m going to start my “no more booze” pact a week early. I’ll drink again after the marathon.

RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. No theme this week. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.

Sunday Mix Tape – Number 228
I Could Drink Your Tears Like They Was Whiskey

01. Valerio Cosi – Grey Horse Theme

02. Superdrag – Sucked Out – I love how the All Music Guide review of this album instructs “indie rock” fans to skip the band’s major label releases and seek out their early records instead. As if all albums should be recorded with the tastes of “indie rock” fans in mind. Fuck that. Regretfully Yours and Head Trip In Every Key are amazing records.

03. PJ Harvey – Happy And Bleeding – I don’t menstruate, but I like this song!

04. Bedhead – Disorder

05. The For Carnation – Salo

06. Laibach – Opus Dei

07. Do Make Say Think – Chinatown

08. Chavez – Break Up Your Band – Dedicated to The Arcade Fire

09. Arab On Radar – Foul Play Occurs If The Jockey’s Rule Is Not Followed

10. Slowdive – Hide Yer Eyes

11. The Effigies – The Sound That Moves

12. Vetiver – You May Be Blue

13. Stiff Little Fingers – Wasted Life

14. My Dad Is Dead – World On A String

15. Low – Murderer – Saw the documentary on Low recently and have been on a real kick recently. Alan’s comments about his religion and description of the lyrical content of this song was as shocking as the song is good.
