Funny, this record came into work a few weeks ago and I knew it looked familiar but couldn’t remember how I knew it. I picked it up and played it and suddenly it came rushing back. First wave space rock revival from the early ’80s! Of course I remembered it! An instrumental quartet from the US (perhaps Cincinnati, as that’s where the recording sessions occurred), Ra Can Row improvised effects-heavy guitar rock to great results, built around guitars, booming bass lines and heavy, driving drumming. Top that off with some mellotron and Moog synthesizers and you’ve got a recipe for some heady rock bliss. They’re not so much experimental as straight-ahead, rhythmic space rock, but the album contains four killer tracks that will definitely expand your mind.
