An original copy of this album sold for $5,100 a few weeks ago. I have the Luv N’ Haight reissue which was released in 2003 and costs a considerable amount less than the original. Like 1% or something.
So the story goes, Verocai was a producer/arranger/guitarist who was involved in many Brazilian records (Ivan Lins, Anamaria & Mauricio, etc.) but this is his only solo album. The vast majority of copies were burned in a fire, and very few survived. Mr. Verocai is joined on tracks by members of Banda Black Rio, and Milton Nascimento’s band, as well as an appearance of Celia that has been described as “pure bliss”. Others have described the record as a supposed artifact of rebellion against governmental censorship at the time of its intended release. The album should appeal to anyone who enjoys folksy soul and lo-fi electronic experimentation in the vein of Shuggie Otis or Charles Stepney, as well as Brazilian artists like Tim Maia and Jorge Ben. It has touches of funk, folk, jazz style guitar solos, 20-piece string arrangements, the blending of electronics and keyboards with organic sounds, and superb soundtrack style music.
