Recorded live at Aquarius Records on October 1st, 2010 this CD was released in limited quantities (300 copies) by Aquarius. It was a Record Store Day exclusive that was only available in-store or through the San Francisco music institution’s mail-order service. It comes packaged in a slim DVD-style case, which is fucking infuriating because it doesn’t fit on my god damned CD shelf. The disc is already somewhat collectible. There’s a copy for sale on eBay that currently stands at about $75. Sorry, there’s no chance I will be parting with my copy.
The 30-minute live set by Dave W. and Ego Sensation begins with an extended dreamy droning soundscape that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Mystery Sea release. It takes over seven minutes for the first recognizable guitar playing to rise above the fray. Before long the mood transforms from tranquil build-up into buzzing acid guitar (controlled!) freak-out. The next movement drops the guitar and returns to a more pastoral drone before concluding with a six-minute sustained fuzz outro. Very heady. Very cool. You will dig it.
Since the track is 30 minutes long I can’t post the whole thing as an MP3 but you can download it via MediaFire to hear it for yourself. Instead, if you haven’t heard White Hills (and if you regularly reading this blog and you don’t know White Hills you should be ashamed of yourself) I’ll include a different song of theirs to whet your appetite.
Enjoy! Thanks Bennett for the rip, my laptop’s CD drive is toast. Does anyone out there want to buy me a new laptop?
