Merry Christmas, Everybody. I know it’s Saturday but I have nothing else to blog about today so you’re getting a mix tape one day early. The pictures and video from last night’s shenanigans are beginning to filter in, very slowly, so you’ll have to wait to see the really good stuff. The night turned into a shit-show very early. There was me, the mouse. There was Tom, the lion. There were two pixies with LED lights and tiny stereo speakers on their wings. There was Zach in a cow hat, Pat in a rabbit mask, Ken, Katie, Arthur, Kelsie, Autumn, Shaun, Erin, and probably others I’m forgetting. We started our pub crawl in the Los Feliz neighborhood, at Ye Rustic Inn. My old High School friend Becca met up with us, which was a fantastic, neat surprise. She recommended drinking my beers through straws so I didn’t have to keep lifting the mouse head to take a sip. Shaun provided the first round of shots, and Erin was already slurring her words and stumbling over people before we left the first bar. We moved across the street to the Drawing Room for a drink or two, then down to Good Luck bar. We were met with cheer and friendliness at each location. The quasi-strip club visit didn’t quite go as planned. Within ten minutes of getting inside, the entire bar erupted in chants of “Mouse! Mouse! Mouse!” and “Let the mouse dance!” and we were suddenly kicked out for taking attention away from the dancers. We thought about heading over to Cheetah’s, a grungier, legit strip club nearby, but found out it was closed. So we went to a neighboring Thai place and sang karaoke with their live band instead. It was a mess.
Tonight is Christmas dinner for LA orphans (pretty much the same crew as last night plus some other stragglers) in Toluca Lake. I’m providing stovetop stuffing, because that’s how I roll and I don’t feel like spending any time in the kitchen today. I’d rather make a mix tape for you. Enjoy!
