Aidan Baker – Pretending To Be Fearless

I don’t think I need to introduce any regular Swan Fungus readers to Aidan Baker. His name has appeared in over a dozen blog posts over the past three years, and his solo work alone has appeared on numerous mix tapes. If you only know his ambient recordings, you need to seek out the groups with which he has recorded/performed. Especially Nadja.

Toronto based musician Aidan Baker has recorded, I don’t know, seventeen thousand albums. That’s a lie. I’m too lazy to count them all. But he’s consistently released CD-rs, LPs, CDs and MP3s for the past eight or nine years. There are dozens upon dozens of amazing guitar-centric ambient/drone recordings in his oeuvre. I was looking forward to sharing my favorite, I Will Always & Forever Hold You In My Heart & Mind, but it was recently re-issued so I don’t want to share that one. Pretending To Be Fearless is an early release, it came out in 2002 on the UK label Fleshmadeword. Not surprisingly, it features plenty of beautiful drones. Enjoy
