A lot of times I post albums that are exceedingly rare, and thus too expensive for casual music fans to afford. Today I’ve decided to post something that is in the vein of many albums I’ve posted before, but not nearly as difficult to locate.
The album was released in 1973 by the Sweet Fortune label. The Acid Archives book compares this record with heavy hitters like Linda Perhacs and Barbara Keith. The exact description reads, “This mysterious album is one of the finest singer songwriter efforts you’ll ever hear…It takes a few listens to reveal itself, but it’s a beautifully written and heartbreakingly sung stroll through years and years of American musical genres (and, lyrically, American culture). It appears simple, but layers of complexity unfold as the songs sink into your brain. Susan has an utterly beautiful voice, and “Heaven” and “Love Never Dies” are the most impossibly fragile love songs you will ever hear.”
Susan took to the Internet somewhat-recently to write about the joy she feels now that her music is connecting with a wider audience:
“I wish you could know how gratifying it is to suddenly learn that people have been enjoying the album I recorded under the Sweet Fortune” label in the 70’s. Only a few weeks ago I learned for the first time that in South Korea it has been bootlegged, and I am trying to arrange to have it re-released legally. I have written a good number of pieces since that first album, but I am now a United Methodist minister in North Carolina, and I wouldn’t know how to begin getting this new music out there. But just knowing people have been listening to my music is such a sweet smile from the Lord, I can’t tell you.
Sincerely,
Susan Pillsbury-Taylor”
