Z was telling me this morning that he didn’t like any of the music he heard on my year-end list for the best albums of 2009. He asked why none of it sounded like Kraftwerk or Spacemen 3. So, just for him, I’m sharing this live recording of Spacemen 3, Revolution Or Heroin.
Recorded live at the University of London on October 22nd, 1987. Track six is an early version of “Suicide.” The tracks are separated by weird audio cut ups, which I’m pretty sure were not sampled and played during the actual show. Rumor has it that this official “bootleg” was deemed allowable by Jason Pierce in an attempt to counteract many of the live recordings of Spacemen 3 which were being passed around or sold during the mid ’90s. Some fans actually refer to the album not by its title, but by “Jason’s Revenge.” The quality of the recording isn’t outstanding, but for those of us who love Spacemen 3, any opportunity to hear something new is reason for celebration.
