Sunday Mix Tape Number 165

I wrote out this whole long introduction to the mix tape and then scrapped it. I just read some horrible news about drummer Jerry Fuchs passing away sometime late last night or this morning. I met Jerry once (I think it was 2005?). It was one of his first shows in New York with Maserati. I remember him telling me that he was new to the band, and in turn I gushed about how awesome he was. I remember turning to Ian towards the end of the band’s set (I believe they closed with “Synchronicity IV”) and realizing he was noticing the exact same thing as me. Those who watched Jerry perform were instantly impressed with his abilities. I was also taken with his kindness, stopping to talk to fans during and after the show I attended. I wish I could say I knew him better than having just one conversation with the man, but I cannot. His loss, truly, is a loss to all of us and to music. He was one hell of a person and drummer. My sincerest thoughts are with his friends and family.

RULES for uninitiated noobs: With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. This week I’ve gone with some really fucked up, weird choices. There’s audio from an exorcism in Germany, the sounds of ghosts tapping on a hard surface somewhere in Switzerland, and some far-out music from Italian experimentalists and others. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
