When I left work this evening, it was for the last time…well, at least for the next two weeks. Nicci returns from Alabama tomorrow, so I’ve taken the day off, and Tuesday off, before I leave for New York on Wednesday. It kind of sucks that she couldn’t get the theater company to fly her from LA to Birmingham to New York, but I guess their contracts are pretty specific about her receiving roundtrip airfare only. Oh well. We’ve got like a day and a half together before we’re apart for ten days again. At least this time I’ll have family to help console me when I’m lonely without her, as opposed to my friends here in LA, who just wanted to keep me drunk for five or six weeks.
So I came over to her place tonight to make the bed and clean up her room for her, so she doesn’t come home to a mess. Then I decided I’d make this week’s mix tape using songs from her hard drive. The last two times I did that, I created what I called Sunday Crap Tapes. This time I searched for songs that I liked. I found eight. I guess that’s not bad, but I think she’s storing more music somewhere that isn’t her iTunes folder. I added the Early Lines track because my boss — a Jonathan Richman fanatic — offered to let me borrow the CD so I could hear their rendition of “Modern World”. It’s so, so awesome.
RULES for uninitiated noobs: With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. See above for this week’s theme. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
