Sunday Mix Tape – Number 142

Hey friends, this is my first official post as a 26-year-old. Let me tell you, it feels not bad. In fact, I wouldn’t hesitate to say it feels “pretty alright”. Thank you Nicci for posting yesterday so that I could enjoy my birthday. You’re a real pal. Scarily, the first time I read through that post I thought, “Wait a minute — didn’t I just write this yesterday?” I guess it just goes to show that anybody can imitate my style of writing, and those of you who leave comments praising me are clearly unaware of my utterly pedestrian abilities.

Thank you to everyone who made my birthday an enjoyable one. Nicci, Lauren, Nick, Phoebe, Sali, Jana, Fawn, Brian, Kasi, Constantine, Pat, Nate, Maryn, Shaun, Erin, Chris, and everyone else who made the celebration so enjoyable. Especially those high school cholos who rolled in from down the street to see what the big fuss was all about. Nick and Lauren were gracious hosts, as always. I hope birthday girl Lauren is enjoying the start of her 25th year as much as I am enjoying the start of year 26.

Saturday was an eventful day. I spent the majority of my birthday alone, in a big park, somewhere downtown. That’s all I’m going to say right now, I’ll let tomorrow’s update explain it further. It should be a good one. Other than that, I nursed a nasty hangover, watched the NFL Draft, ate a ton of barbecued meat, and then Nicci ordered Two Boots for dinner. I ate too much. As the night wore on, we contemplated making a home movie and putting it together in Final Cut, but my overly pretentious script idea (two people in a French cafe talking about war and art) was vetoed by Nate’s idea (there should be a strange man watching them suspiciously, then it turns out that he’s masturbating the whole time). In the end, we didn’t make a home movie, and instead spoofed a commercial that has been getting a lot of airtime during the NBA Playoffs. For those of you who are sports fans, surely you recognize the “Where Will Amazing Happen This Year” commercials (see: Paul Pierce NBA Commercial). Well, Pat put together a stunning Mario Kart Wii version of the commercial using footage of the moment he beat me in the semifinals of our Kart League playoffs. It’s an amazing spoof. I think he nailed it (see: Eat Me Out Kart Commercial). I passed out relatively early.

I’m going out for the night, but here’s a little mix tape to tide you over.

RULES for uninitiated noobs: With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. The theme today is…there is no theme. I just plucked a bunch of songs at random and tried to make them sound nice as they transition from one to the next. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
