Sunday Mix Tape – Number 138

Hi friends. It’s been an eventful 48 hours. My bank account has been frozen by Bank Of America, leaving me with…$12 in cash that has to last me until my new debit card arrives this week. Supposedly there was “suspicious activity” reported by Mastercard, but when I called to ask what happened, I was told that they were not allowed to reveal what the activity was. I called bullshit, and they held their ground. So, really, I don’t know why they froze my assets. Maybe someone got ahold of my account information, maybe they didn’t. We’ll never know. I just know I’m pissed off they can’t disclose what the fuck happened, or even call me to let me know that my account could not be accessed. It took a declined ATM withdrawl to even alert me that something might be wrong. Fuck BofA.

On another note, thank you endlessly to Seth from California for his generous donation. I’ll be getting very drunk this week in honor of him, and he’ll also receive one of my cool, custom, hand-made Swan Fungus care packages that all donors to this website receive. Let that serve as inspiration to you all. Donate beer money to me and you will be rewarded handsomely!

I met Simeon from Silver Apples today. He signed an LP for me and told a story about Silver Apples playing a show to celebrate the moon landing in New York back in ’69, and another about jamming with Jimi Hendrix. Super-cool and amiable fellow, he is. Silver Apples are performing down the street tonight with The Homosexuals, and if I didn’t hate shows in LA so much I’d go. Chatting with Simeon was was good enough for me.

Mix tape, shall we?

RULES for uninitiated noobs: With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. Tonight I’m continuing on my ambient/experimental/slow-and-soulful kick. You’ll notice there are two tracks from albums mentioned Friday’s Top Ten list. There’s also some good drone music, some great acoustic guitar work, and two foreign folk artists (Maripol and Masato Tomobe). I think the Japanese guy is covering Neil Young? The guitar part sure is…If you don’t know the Jim Ford story, holy cow are you missing out on something great. This is my favorite mix in a long time, so I hope you like it too. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted the intended running order, and then had to piece it back together, so it might not flow perfectly from one track to the next. Oops! The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
