Hello space invaders, welcome to another installment of what we here at SF headquarters like to call “Sunday Mix Tape”. I couldn’t be bothered to compile my own tape tonight because I bought a lot of new records at work today and I wanted to relax in my bedroom and enjoy them without the added distraction of having to copy files from my hard drive to my laptop. The tunes sounded good! All the beautiful Japanese Blue Note/Prestige/DIW jazz reissues sound stunning! I felt like such an audiophile nerd sitting in bed thinking to myself, “Holy fuck! You can actually hear Stan Getz being a white dude!” Two hours later my Lightnin’ Hopkins record skipped midway through its final track, so it bummed me out and I decided to start putting together the mix tape.
RULES for uninitiated noobs: With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. This week I am using songs from Ilya’s CD collection. He’s sick right now, so I’m sitting only kind-of next to him, and drinking a stiff Emergen-C cocktail. It tastes like ass but hopefully I won’t get sick. Otherwise I might never get a flu shot again — that thing was supposed to protect me, right? As always, these songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.
