Rhythms, Resolutions & Clusters consists entirely of remixed (and retitled) versions of songs from the band’s self-titled first album. Some of the remixes were performed by band members, others by friends of the band including Steve Albini, Rick Brown, Jim O’Rourke and Brad Wood. In 2006, the whole of this album was reissued as the third CD in a compilation box set called A Lazarus Taxon; the reissue also contains an extra remix which was completed too late for inclusion on the original release. According to Wikipedia the original is out-of-print, so that’s why it is available here, now.
According to AllMusic, the resulting remixes create “a 30-minute continuous mix, ranging from a hip-hop remix – with A Tribe Called Quest and Minnie Riperton sampls — to environment-sound driftings. Most of the disc is on the experimental side, even compared to the original.” Whatever you say, guys!
